Asset Story

Service

Past budgeting,
into real statements

Where a budgeting app stops at “how much did I spend this month,” Asset Story answers “what do I own, what do I owe, and how is my money actually changing?” We took the way companies handle financial statements and brought it to everyday money.

What we build

Three things we hold onto

01

Your money as a balance sheet

Not one running balance, but assets, liabilities and equity kept apart. The way a company reads its own position from its statements, you get your real net worth and the structure underneath it.

02

A ledger you share

Partners, friends and families can watch and record the same flows inside one profile. It started as a household ledger, but it's built to scale like a business one.

03

Financial literacy, in practice

When a family shares a profile, children meet the ideas early — where money goes, what an asset is, why recording matters. We care about the sense you build by doing, not by being lectured.

Features

What you can do

It runs as one continuous flow, from a single entry all the way to a financial statement. There is no cleanup step in between.

Recording

  • Double-entry input with separate debit and credit sides
  • Account codes and a dedicated keypad — seconds per entry
  • Validation that blocks saving when the sides don't match
  • Enter several transactions in a row on one screen
  • Frequent entries remember their accounts and memo

Chart of accounts

  • Five classes — assets, liabilities, equity, income, expenses
  • Two-level structure with categories (cash, investments, fixed assets…)
  • Add accounts, edit names, codes and memos
  • Customize icons and colors, reorder how they display
  • Set opening balances for your starting point

Reading

  • A home screen holding five pillars and net income at once
  • Account detail that opens any account as a T-account
  • Pick a counterpart account to filter down to those transactions
  • A calendar that prints each day's net movement
  • Monthly income, expenses and net income with month-over-month change

Financial statements

  • Balance sheet — assets, liabilities and equity as they stand
  • Income statement — how income, expenses and net income compose
  • Cash flow statement — operating, investing and financing movement
  • Statement of changes in equity — contributions, withdrawals, accumulated results
  • Trial balance and notes

Financial ratios

  • Capital structure — debt ratio, equity ratio, current ratio, debt-to-equity
  • Income and spending — savings rate, expense ratio
  • Profitability and liquidity — net margin, return on assets (ROA)
  • Trend charts for assets, liabilities and equity
  • Monthly income, expense and net income charts

Sharing

  • Personal profiles and shared profiles, kept apart
  • Member invitations and role management
  • Friend requests and lists
  • Fully separate chart of accounts and ledger per profile
  • Create several ledgers and switch by purpose

Fit

Who this is for

Asset Story is not a budgeting app for everyone. We think it's better for both of us to say up front who it fits and who it doesn't.

This will fit you if

  • Your assets and debts are tangled enough that net worth is genuinely unclear
  • You're paying down a loan and want principal and interest kept apart
  • You want to keep one ledger with family or a business partner
  • You've studied accounting, or want to, and would rather learn by doing

We'd steer you elsewhere if

  • You just want to tap in today's coffee — a lighter app suits you better
  • You want bank sync so you never have to record anything at all
  • You mostly want spending caps and alerts to control consumption

Double-entry feels foreign for the first few days. Get past those, and going back to single-entry is surprisingly hard.
