Asset Story

Product

The same ledger,
wherever you open it

Asset Story runs on the web, iPhone and iPad under one account. It works best when you capture a transaction on the move and spread everything out later at a desk.

Web

Straight from the browser

Nothing to install — you can use it right now. The wide canvas is where your account structure and transaction history are easiest to take in at once.

Start on the web

The web currently covers home, calendar and transaction entry. Analysis and settings screens are being added in stages.

iPhone · iPad

App Store

The complete reference version. On iPad the screen splits so you can watch home and account detail at the same time.

Download on the App Store

Requires iOS 17 or later

Android

Google Play

An Android version is in the works. The web app runs in mobile browsers, so you can use it there in the meantime.

Getting started

The order of things

Three things you do once. After that, all that's left is recording.

  1. 01

    Create an account

Sign up with email, Apple or Google. The web and the app use the same account.

  2. 02

    Create a ledger

Pick a template that matches your purpose and a full chart of accounts comes with it. Personal and shared ledgers can live side by side.

  3. 03

    Enter opening balances

Write down what's in your accounts and what's left on your cards as a starting point. This is the last of the one-time work.

  4. 04

    Record transactions

Note what you spent and where it came from, together. Statements and ratios build themselves from there.

Creating a ledger and entering opening balances are currently supported in the app. On the web you can open an existing ledger and record into it.

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need to know accounting?

Knowing that debits go left and credits go right is enough to begin. The chart of accounts arrives ready-made from a template, and repeat transactions refill their structure from the memo alone. The hard part isn't the concept — it's the first few days of the habit.

Should I start on the web or in the app?

The app is faster to record in; the web is easier to spread out and read. Signing in with the same account opens the same ledger, so the order doesn't matter.

Can I use it with my family?

Create a shared profile and invite members, and you can all read and record in the same ledger. It stays entirely separate from your personal one, so your own records aren't exposed along with it.

Does it import my card transactions automatically?

No — entry is manual today. Bank sync is convenient, but it can't decide for you whether a transaction is an asset or an expense, and that judgment is the most important thing happening in Asset Story.
